Full-time Employment
Cary Area EMS currently staffs 3 paramedic level ambulances, 24 hours a day and an additional peak-load truck 12 hours a day. This occurs 7 days a week, 365 days a year. One ambulance operates out of our main station, one truck from Cary Fire Station #5, and another truck out of Morrisville Fire Station 2. The peak-load ambulance is an available asset in Wake County, and primarily services the Cary Area. Our workforce includes full-time, casual-time, and volunteer staff. Cary EMS prides itself on having the best staff, great equipment, and a very competitive benefits package for its full-time employees. Many of our full-time staff began as volunteers and were hired on when they decided to pursue a career in EMS. Additionally, several of our members have been with us for greater than 10 years, and even some for 15 years and beyond, demonstrating our commitment to employee satisfaction and retention. Full-time shift persons work either a rotating 24-hour shift or rotating 12-hour shift. A, B, and C shifts each work every other day for five days, and then are off for four days. Our peak-load truck operates on a 12-hour shift. D and E shifts rotate working cycles of three days and two days. Administrative staff typically work Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm. Casual-time staff submit availability each month, and are scheduled as needed. Our casual time staff are typically EMT-Paramedic, and EMT-Intermediate level technicians. Compensation for casual-time employees is competitive and increases are given annually depending on experience, seniority, and positive evaluations.
